Say what you want of Dropkick, their shows still kick ass. Maybe I lucked out because Summerfest has benches that prohibit any kind of moshing, but I thought that most people grew out of that by their early 20's at the latest...
In any case Flogging Molly and Scythian this weekend will kick even more ass.
(I assume that at least one of the two songs you reference is Tessie because I know I HATE that song.)
Interesting... |

Shipping Off to Boston. Every time I hear that intro I want to commit an act of violent comedic hyperbole.
Also, the rule for moshing is that if you can legally purchase alcohol, you're too old to vent your frustrations through other means. |

Gotta advocate something!
Its just sad seeing some like, 30 year old bro in a sweaty wifebeater, no hair and a goatee shoving around a bunch of 17 year old kids who don't know any better.
i got yo la tengo's album 'i am not afraid of you and i will beat your ass,' and i'd never listened to much yo la tengo before, but i immediately love them. every song is its own genre. there's 60's influenced bouncy piano pop, swirling, lo-fi guitar hooks, moody overtures and instrumentation pulled straight from sgt pepper's. they've been around since the late 80s and have 15 studio albums, so i've got a loooooooooooooooooooooooot of listening to do. |

Is it wrong then that I bought a bunch of 17 year olds beer at Summerfest this weekend so they could get as drunk as the 37 year olds? (To Mr. Cop Man: That was just a joke.... cough/)
On a side note, Flogging Molly kicked ass. I really don't think anything else needs to be said. Well, Dave King started talking about What Made Milwaukee Famous, but then they didn't actually play it:( Oh well.
(PS The Roots on Friday were also quite good.) |

It's just Summerfest. One of the two cool things about Milwaukee (the other being Brewer games).
Did I also mention I saw Rancid/Rise Against and Airborne Toxic Event? Those weren't nearly as good as Dropkick, Molly, or Roots, but Rise Against surprised me and were much better than I thought.
Drinking is for losers... Or should I say drinking Miller Lite is. Thank goodness for that Lakefront Brewery stand... |

Born Ruffians - I Need a Life

No frills or production tricks. Just guitar/bass/drum jangly indie-pop with some nifty gang vox. Their debut CD "Red, Yellow, Blue" is quite good.
I think I'm through the transitional looking glass between what I listened to when I was 16 and where I am now. I purged my music library a few months back because why does a 25-year-old need the entire Reel Big Fish discography, and aside of Alkaline Trio, Piebald, Q and not U, Saves the Day, Streetlight Manifesto and Strung Out, there isn't anything representative of my 1998-2003 tastes. I don't dislike a lot of the bands I used to dig, but I just have no inclination to listen to any of them of my own volition. |

| I actually thought you were going to say that you grew out of Alkaline Trio. Also I dont think anyone needs more than maybe 2 Reel Big Fish albums and I tend to skip pretty much all of their songs when they come up on random. |

| Oh yeah, I still have Drunk Again and Average Man on my laptop because Scott Klopfenstein Reel Big Fish songs are the best Reel Big Fish songs. |

Wow, I still have Alkaline Trio, Saves the Day, Q but not U, and Streetlight on my iPhone...
I'm a fan of Vampire Weekend, but I dig that Born Ruffians track a lot more. Nice.
No one ever grows our of beer, or Beer. Just don't be a jackass and keep yelling for them to play it... |

So I started to listen to Fun and thought, wow this sounds a lot like the Format! Then I recalled you previously mentioning something about a side project from the guy from the Format. Ah, it all makes sense now.
Dog Problems was a "what the hell" kind of purchase - since it was only 6 bucks - that turned out to be an awesome album. I feel like I robbed them worse than if I had just pirated it. Seriously now, how the hell do you keep up on all this awesome music? |
