Since this generation is on the way out and Next Gen is nearly "this gen" and all that jibberty jam, it's time to declare some winners! Ok so there are still a couple big games for every system left (except xbox) but who cares. I also wanted to make this list for myself once and for all. This isn't about what you think deserves the best game, it's your personal favorites despite any numerous shortcomings. An example would be something like splinter cell. I don't really like it, BUT I can acknowledge that it's done some amazing things. Anyways...

PS2:

1. Devil May Cry 3 (Special Edition)
2. Disgaea
3. Gradius V
4. God of War
5. Zone of the Enders: Second Runner

I'm actually right at the end of ZOE2 and I'm wondering why I waited to play this game for so long. Maybe in a week I will say that I'd prefer Ratchet and Clank 2, but for now it has SHOT UP my list and I wanted to make sure it's in my top 5. Hey look, it is! Also the damn game has a transforming Vic Viper mech that you get to fight against to remixed Gradius music!

Xbox:

1. Ninja Gaiden
2. Panzer Dragoon Orta

The only 2 games worth mentioning. Also the 2 games I got my xbox with. I did get a bunch of multiplatform games, but those don't count here. I also played both Halo's. *cough*

Gamecube:

1. Super Smash Bros: Melee
2. Metroid Prime
3. Super Monkey Ball 2
4. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
5. F-Zero GX
6. Ikaruga
7. Tales of Symphonia
8. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
9. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

SHOCK AND AWE! I've finally put the obvious choice at #1! Out of my 50+ gamecube games, these EXCLUSIVES were all worth mentioning. I was kind of on the fence about Fire Emblem and I almost put animal crossing...but this is good for me. Think of it as the last 9 games I would ever give away (that are exclusive...)

Multi!:

1. Resident Evil 4 (gc)
2. Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection (ps2)
3. Viewtiful Joe
4. Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

I'd say this list is proof positive that console exclusives are always better. Hell, 2 of these WERE exclusive at one point and another contains an arcade perfect port.

I know there's another thread around here with a very similar theme to it. I think I made it...Oh how things change.

Wow.... looking at that list me thinks I should take some time and think about 'my list' so I don't make a fool out of myself too...

And your so called 'proof' is bogus. RE4 is THE best game of this past gen. There goes that theory of yours...

And why didn't you include Wii games if this is a list of current gen?

Hmmm...

XBOX:

1. Halo 2 (yeah, it's overated and far from perfect, but that still doesn't stop the fact that it was an absolute blast to play on XBL, and owned my soul for almost a year.)
2. Forza Motor Sports
3. Ninja Gaiden
4. Sid Mier's Pirates
5. Dead Or Alive 2: Ultimate

Gamecube:

1. Super Smash Bros.: Melee (Of course)
2. Metroid Prime
3. F-Zero GX
4. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
5. Pikmin

Playstation 2:

1. God Of War
2. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

PS2 sucks, and these are the only games I've played on it that really stood out to me.

Muti:

1. Resident Evil 4
2. Capcom Classics Collection: Volume 1
3. Sonic Collection Plus
4. Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection
5. Mega Man: Anniversary Collection

Yeah... I'm a Capcom fan, and love compilation discs... sue me.

Pfft, I have all those collections too and Capcom is easily my favorite 3rd party (sorry Sega).

As for my comment about multiplatform games...well I probably should have worded it different since I meant there are hardly any multiplatform games that can stack up to the exclusives.

As per request, my top 5 Wii games of this generation:

1. Elebits
2. BWii
3. Super Mario Strikers: Charged
4. Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
5. Punch Out Thwii

Just to prove everyone wrong, I'll just start with the top *15* GC games. Yes, even I was surprised I could find that many. But none of that exclusive BS applies. (Plus I had to include sequels...)

1) Resident Evil 4
2) Metroid Prime
3) Eternal Darkness
4) Zelda: Wind Waker
5) Super Monkey Ball
6) Metroid Prime Echoes
7) Super Monkey Ball 2
8) Smash Bros. Melee
9) Pikmin 2
10) F-Zero GX
11) Paper Mario
12) Pikmin
13) Viewtiful Joe
14) Fire Emblem
15) ...okay, I got greedy and now I can't even think of a game that's worth renting. Did I mention RE4 yet? Oh yeah, it was #1, shit.

And damn you for toying with me by listing Punch Out with the rest of that crap...

the fact that you have full, separate lists for ps3 and psn is incredible. The fact that you even considered Mario Kart for the wii is also incredible. It would be tough for me to make a list like this because I would actually include the 360 and then the whole multiplatform issue comes to mind.

It's about time for bed for me...maybe I can whip up a nice top 10 list concerning ALL platforms. Only the best version of a series will count.

ok NO. No that would take some real deliberation. Here's a nice list in no particular order of most of the games that really stood out for me this generation. I won't even consider handhelds or late bloomer ps2 games. (Persona 3 and 4)

Street Fighter 4
Uncharted 2
Valkyria Chronicles
Assassin's Creed 2
Ratchet & Clank: Crack in Time
Blazblue
Borderlands
Dragon Age Origins
Lost Odyssey
Tales of Vesperia
Gears of War 2
Shadow Complex
Fallout 3
Mass Effect
Bioshock
Muramasa
Metroid Prime 3
Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros Brawl
No More Heroes

I only have 12 Wii games (I only didn't list the too new GH5, Mercury Meltdown even though I really like it, and Paper Mario which I got rid of since I didn't like it). While Mario Kart isn't great, it's better than MK:DD and all the hours playing it with co-workers "after" work bump it up (which also bumped Smash Bros down, I suck:).

I have a lot of PSN games:) There are 2 that didn't make it, whereas there are 2 on my PS3 list that I no longer own (R:FOM, VF5). Besides wipEout, the rest would fall below my PS3 games so I made a separate list.

Assassins Creed 2 looks interesting, but I played a little of AC and wasn't impressed... Same for Bioshock. The demo seemed meh so I never played it.

I had been thinking I should pick up Infamous, but then I tried the Batman AA demo... wow. I was quite suprised. Me thinks I have to get this game...

damn I was just looking at my game collection and not even considering games I've played and do NOT own. Arkham Assylum is definately the second best non-street fighter game this year after Uncharted 2. I didn't expect to think it was so amazing so I only borrowed it from work. Once I had it beaten, I was pretty much done with it so I didn't see a need to buy it.

I don't understand all the hate for Double Dash. Clearly you have never played 8 player LAN as it is the best way to play a Mario Kart. It's probably the best console version of the series and DS is probably the best overall.

Infamous was great but doesn't really stick out in my mind for some reason.

Bioshock is possibly the greatest game this generation. Would you kindly play this game?

Wipeout on PSN is great and I love how it fully realizes all of my expensive hardware with amazing surround and REAL 1080P resolution. I still think I prefer the track design and overall driving in F-zero GX but man Wipeout has a LOT of ways to race.

Oh hey I should probably mention Phantasy Star Zero as well. I STILL have not been able to play with anyone online (stupid America) but I find myself going back for more even after beating the story. I love me some item drops.

I don't hate DD, but it is my least favorite MK. Though I agree that the fact I played a bunch of multiplayer MK Wii, and very little of it with DD, is a big factor in my opinion of them. And yes, MK DS is the best version (only EBA is better overall on DS).

I'm surprised to say I agree with you about F-Zero GX as well. The tracks in GX (and AX!) just seemed more memorable. But wipeout HD is awesome.

And I'll save the rest of my response for the more appropriate Games I Just Purchased thread...

mario kart sucks beyond mario kart 64 because there's just way too much going on in every track.

mario bros. wii was the best game of 2009.

man Mario Kart 64 is probably the worst mario kart...right after the gba one. Now I'm not saying it was a bad game at all. Every mario kart has been at least "really good." Eh, there isnt much of a gap in quality between these games so it's tough to argue for it. Basically DS does everything right and double dash has 8 player LAN and blue sparks.

Mario Kart Wii is probably a bad game, but that's also what makes it fun to play with a group of people (some of who aren't really game players). It's just a hilarious, chaotic mess. Compare that to Smash Bros which is just a chaotic mess:)

It's like that awful Ke$ha song. It's so bad that... wait no, that song is just plain terrible.

No way did someone say Mario Kart 64 was anything less than one of the best Mario Kart games. Maybe even the best. Id say the SNES was great but the 4 player addition really made the series a lot more fun. Unless of course you owned a PSX at this time, and then we all know that you only played games alone anyway =)

As far as the new generation of games go, I am in no position to rate any of them...humbug

I definately had lots of fun times with Mario Kart 64. I also never owned a psx. Hell, my first ps2 game was symphony of the night. Anyways, I was saying that overall Mario Kart 64 is not as good as double dash or ds. I can honestly say I put more time into 64 over the years than any other kart, but that doesnt make it the best. One thing I will give you is at the time, playing with 3 other people was unheard of and it was easily the best multiplayer experience on the system until smash bros came out. Fuck goldeneye.
