Possibly I can give you DS, but I refuse to say its Double Dash is better. In fact pretty much every MK game after N64 is a copy complete with stages from N64

I don't know how radically different you want your mario kart from the 64 formula. 64 didn't have blue sparks. I mean...those colored E's were just terrible. And just because future karts had n64 stages doesn't mean they were nearly as good as the new ones per game. DK mountain is better than anything 64 had to offer.

Also Toad's voice is like whoa.

Toads voice is the complete embodiment of toad. I dont want it to be radically different, but 64 did the biggest change and everything else is a repeat, blue sparks or Eeee`s. The two players in one cart thing didn`t take off so well, and I still prefer to play many of those n64 stages, and maybe its just me but I also felt a little less like I was winning by complete luck which we all know is a huge recurring theme in the series. True I would still win by luck many times, but just a little less. The battle stages seems to get progressively worse with the series as well. I played a lot of battle mode on the n64 and the snes for that matter, but it stopped being fun after that. I am not even sure ive played battle mode on the wii version.

commenting on something you said earlier. Castlevania:SOTN was my first game for the Psx when i finnally got one like 2 years after it was released. What a great game, what great memories...."sigh"

yeah 64 had the one good battle stage (block fort) and that's it. All kart games have that feeling of winning by luck and all of them have crazy rubber band AI. Mario Kart 64 is like the first Assassin's Creed. It laid down the groundwork, but the sequel was just better in every way. Lets just forget about battle mode.

Geeze. Move on already. Mario 64 was awesome and the rest since haven't been as good. The battle modes of DD and Wii are a joke so I don't know how you can diss the 64's version of it at all... and no I won't forget about it since it was one of the best parts.

More on point, after putting an hour or so into Batman AA, wow. This game is awesome. Right now on my list I'd already put it somewhere between Borderlands and MGS4...

the post-64 mario karts suck because there's way too much bullshit going on while you race. just like, the tracks themselves are more distracting than they are fun and competitive.

mario kart 64 had like, the penguins and the thwomps, but small obstacles were about the height of what could dick you over while you raced.

man I already stated that I liked 64. Unfortunately I have to make my case by bashing it. Battle in Mario kart was NEVER really that good. My point is that the only time it was ever decent was block fort in 64. Im done with this discussion.

Batman was easily the second best game to come out last year. Of course when I say this, I do not include SF4 because that itself is more of a hobby than an actual videogame. (#1 is obviously uncharted).

Youre finished when I say youre finished!

By the way I`m liking Zelda Spirit Tracks much more than Phantoms Hourglass. I really hated the dungeons with the hour glass time limit...like REALLY hated them.

Man that phantom temple sucked big time. Spirit Tracks is definately better but I still would rather have a real overworld than one on rails. I think I talked about this game in here already...Link's Awakening is still probably the best portable zelda.

Wait a minute, there is another thread for this discussion!

For a new year, my top 5 favorite video game franchises of all time.

1) Zelda: I love adventure games (and movies, Goonies is the greatest movie ever), and you can't beat a good Zelda game when it comes to adventure. They're all so good. Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess... I haven't played one recently, but 3D Dot Game Heroes and hopefully Darksiders will fill that need for now.

2) Half-Life: So good. No single player FPS comes close. Crowbars, gravity guns, headcrabs galore. Plus the HL universe contains possibly the all-time greatest game, Portal. Can't wait for Portal 2, and god willing hopefully someday Episode 3. I'll leave out all the mods that spun off from HL (Counter Strike, Team Fortress...).

3) Metal Gear: Best PS game? MGS. Best PS2 game? MGS3. Best PS3 game? Uncharted 2, but MGS4 is right behind! The original Metal Gear and even MGS2 are also great games. Sometimes eye rolling story and wonky gameplay, but I love every minute.

4) Metroid: Other than LttP, Super Metroid was my most played SNES game. Then came (eventually) the most excellent Prime series. Other M was disappointing, but I still liked it since after all it is a Metroid game.

5) Super Mario: I already mention LttP and Super Metroid. My 3rd most played SNES game? Mario World! Add in the awesome SMB3, the revolutionary Mario 64, the super fun Galaxies, and the rest and you have a lot of time spent jumping and eating mushrooms.
