streetlight manifesto's 99 songs of revolution.
what the fuck is this mediocre horseshit, streetlight? could your cover of 'such great heights' be more of a disjointed, sloppy mess? i waited the better part of a decade for this and you guys give me something that sounds like it was recorded on a four-track in the back of your van? fuck.
ted leo's brutalist bricks.
thank god for you, ted leo. i can't wait to spend Lots of Money at your show in a few weeks.
bomb the music industry's adults.
kudos to you guys for doing more with five days than streetlight could with almost ten years. and for releasing it for free.

go get it. |

Well that sucks. The last great ska band... And Such Great Heights? I love that song, not to mention Ben Folds already does an awesome cover of it.
March 14th Ted wanders around these parts...
There's a number of great shows around here come March, but the one that should be really sweet is the April 9th Motion City Soundtrack/Fun. show. |

I had downloaded the album you linked and thought, this is pretty cool.
But I still say Streetlight was the last great ska band. This doesn't come close to matching Everything Goes Numb or Somewhere in the Between.
Or maybe I need to download more of Bomb's stuff... |

you've gotta consider the following when you listen to the EP
a) it was recorded in someone's basement / bedroom
b) it was conceptualized and recorded within a five-day period
c) it was released with literally no advance notice
d) it was released (as is all of bomb's stuff) for free, immediate download
download their last proper album, scrambles, from that same site and get back to me. |

Shit.
Well, if Streetlight is dead, then ok. Bomb the Music Industry is the last great ska band. I've listened to Adults! and Scrambles all day, and well yeah, damn good shit. I still can't get past You Still Believe in Me? (in that it's an awesome song), and Stuff That I Like is my second favorite (the whole song, not just 30 seconds of it), but yeah, you win this round. |

picking my favorite btmi! song is tough because its usually a toss-up between something loaded with a bunch of rad bells & whistles and a song where its just like "fuck, jeff, you are so right!" but ultimately i have to give the nod to i don't love you anymore.

my btmi! list goes
-get warmer
-scrambles
-goodbye cool world
-album minus band
-to leave or die in long island
for a more or less straight-up ska album, check out the arrogant sons of bitches' "three cheers for disappointment." same principal singer/songwriter as btmi!, but backed by a dedicated band. |

| One of the songs on Scrambles had some female singing and she seemed pretty good. Do they have any songs where she's the lead? |

that's laura stevenson. she's got some free records up on the quote unquote website. she also provides backing vocals on a lot of BTMI! tracks like all ages shows off of adults!, and never trust a man without a horrible secret off of get warmer.

Dammit...
Just downloaded Get Warmer to check that one out next... And then went and ordered Scrambles for good measure. I still like physical copies of stuff:)
I'll add 25! to the list of songs I really like so far. And Planning My Death sounds like classic LTJ.
Working 12-14 hours a day lately, listening to this just makes me feel stupid:) Which is why I also like the song Struggler... |

| the coolest thing about bomb is how literally every aspect of their existence is DIY. they don't have merch, so you bring blank shirts to shows and they'll screen / paint them for you on the spot. if you learn a song and bring an instrument, you can play with them. all their shows are all ages and under $10. its just a fucking great concept helmed by some rad folks, and i'm so happy they're getting bigger as people spread the word. |
