|
|
I can't say I'm a huge Goldfinger fan (well, the movie rules). I like them and all, but for one punk/ska (third wave ska) isn't my favorite genre anyways. I tend more towards alt-rock or electronica and even some hip-hop. Anyhoo...
Still, they do have one of the better CDs of the 90's... And here's my beef... It's NOT FRICKIN' STOMPING GROUNDS! Hang-Ups is WAY WAY better, their debut is even better (even though its strength relies on mainly 2 songs). Don't even pull that "99 Red Balloons Rules!" crap. Maybe if you had a broader music horizon you would have heard the original Luft Balloons version (by Nena), which is way better. I mean, how can the best song on an album even not be their own! Might as well start to listen to Limp Bizkit's 3 Dollar Bill...
In short, Hang-Ups rules... while Stomping Grounds is just like any other CD out there... nothing special. | The NBrids are coming... NBridNet (online videogame community) | |

| that was a bit harsh. what inspired that one bone? well hang ups is my favorite goldfinger CD by far but i like stomping grounds a lot. 99 isnt the best song on the CD that would go to counting the days or pick a fight but its good for what it is A COVER. ive heard the origional many many times and i like the gf version better. why because i like music in my language for one and 2 it was hella cool live because they actually had 99 ( im assuming ) red baloons. now im just ranting. look you made me rant. oh yeah goldfinger is the best bond flick. |

It's not harsh if it's what I think... and is true...
99 Luft Balloons being German is what makes it cool (Even though she also does an English version...) And to me there is no best song on that CD since they are all so blah... I saw Goldfinger once, before Stomping Grounds and they didn't play 99 Balloons, oh well. At least they mainly played Hang-Ups...
And why did I see a commercial on ABC saying James Bond coming this fall? Hmm, more than TBS's 17 Days of Bond?

its not that we think you have a narrow music view its just that as of late you havent really tried anything different.... i mean you like punk and thats cool but dont you need something mellow and good (not mellow and bad like juliana) then why not try jimmy eat world or god forbid the green album.
the debates arguments and conversations about music we have on these boards and in #hybrid are in my opinion what seperates us from other clans and online communitites. most of them are all eminem, limp bizkit, and papa roach clans but we are different. so what if you happen to think you get "picked on" for not having a wider range of musical taste you like what youlike and thats cool but what with the internet and whatnot its hard to believe that you dont d/l more MP3s (dont gimmie the "my PC is too slow or i dont know where to get MP3s" spech its called winmx)
and the whole basis of our weezer comments is that yujust wrote it off because "frink didnt like it" if shagwell (heh) said she didnt like mario 64 before you played it would you nothave gotten it? of course you would have.
wow this turned int oa long ass post. oh well hopefully it will spark a discussion of sorts. |

| So I guess you know every cd i own. I dont have a ton of punk cds like u may think. I have 1 nofx cd and dont plan on getting a new one any time soon. Alt used to be my music of choice, but now my fav type of music is like Goldfinger, NO use, ataris, of NFG. I love the self titled cd, thats my and all my friend's opinion. I love the other NFG cds too. Then i have other stuff like at the drive in, alien ant farm, Spineshank, and linkin park or something very different. Juliana does suck but has a couple good songs. As for weezer, and this is the last time i will say it, I have to hear it all first! I said that Frink didnt really like it just in a conversation, not my main reason for not wanting it. I didnt really want it because i have a lot of other cds i want right now and from what ive heard off of the green album...its just a MAYBE for me. Thats it. No more about it. So say i only listen to punk. Stomping ground is the defining cd in my life, made me realize the music i really like and opened my eyes to new stuff..hell, had it not been or GF, i wouldnt of met klam. So i may seem pissed but thats only because of the ppl i thought i could relate to, now dissing my music taste just like the rest. |

im NOT DISSINg your taste in music im dissing the fact that you write off CDs with out a second thought, and before you say anything you did it in that last post whe nyou said "I have 1 NOFX cd and i dont plan on getting another one any time soon" come on now how can you write off one of the best punk bands like that with out a second thought? i actually appreciate your taste in music but the thing is is that people have DIFFERENT tastes and those DIFFERENCES lead to conflict.
me and bone have had debates over music on a few occasions, as have me and you, me and ultima, me and psydd, me and greenday, me and frink, and me and just about everyone (hell the only person i havent argued with over music is wade)
maybe we shouldnt talk about music any more if you get soaggrivated at us having more CDs than you but i thought the convo we had last night about genres was pretty good and thats one of the reasons i like #hybrid because we talk about music as much as we do.
so seriously hybrid you need to end this whole "everyone hates me" attitiude and remembr one thing...... GOLDFINGER AND REEL BIG FISH IN 2 WEEKS!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

First, there is no way I'd bash Hy's taste in music. If I wanted to do that, there are much better targets (coughwadecough). Cause it's obvious there is no problem there.
Second, I was only making an observation when I said somtin about you having a 'narrow' range of music tastes. I wasn't bashing you since if that's what you like, so be it. But for the most parts it is true. Punk... I'm sure u listen mainly to 3rd wave ska which is punk/ska, same for emo and much of the rest named.
Look at it this way, languages have many dialects. Some are very different in that people of different dialects can't even understand each other, but the fact remains it's STILL the same language....
As for Weezer, don't base it on what you heard like on the radio. Find/borrow some Weezer CDs. Listen to the whole thing a couple times in big chunks... you may change your mind. Weezer is like an aquired taste. Also, Weezer isn't really punk. More alt-rock (and not that shit "alt-rock" ala MatchBox 20) or Geek Rock if you ask me.

Ok, here is how i should of worded the NOFX thing..Even though I like them, there are other cds i want more. I was using this as an example of "i like this band but i want to check out other stuff more." This relating to the green album situation.. I dont think everyone is against me. And Im not resentful or some shit, I was just aggrivated that ppl say "Hy hates weezer" or "he hates it and hasnt even heard it!" THAT is what pissed me off..but seeing as how u know that Im going to listen to it soon, u dont have to worry. I know what you mean by an aquired taste too bone; its just like Baked Lays, bowling, and Smash Bros...heh. As for mp3's i dont download them because...i dont want to. Maybe if it didnt slow down my internet by 3 times, i would think about it, but usually ill dl one if im interested no matter what. In conclusion, lets try to talk about games at least once a week and not jump anyone b4 they explain themselves All is well...now do i really want to wear my good GF merchandise to that concert? First you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women. |

You all sound like my 10 and 13 year old sisters arguing over a hairbrush, only you arent arguing over a hairbrush and you are using bigger words. We all can agree that Goldfinger is a good band. It happens to be my opinion that their cover of "99 Luft Balloons" was better than the original, but then again, im not one for old, tired, 80's music. But, I will not go ahead and force my opinion like some here, who will remain nameless, have done or been doing. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether you fucking like it or not. If you go and force your opinions on others, of course you will have a negative reaction. Nobody will say "Hey im your bitch so ill like and do everything that you do!" And responding to one of those opinion forcing comments with another is not a good idea either. Its like drinking some really bad orange juice, but then trying to cancel it out by drinking some more really bad orange juice. As for music taste, how the hell would you know what people like and what they dont like? Even if they tell you what they like, it doesnt mean you know everything. Hell, I am punk, but i still like the Spin Doctors! And attacking ones preference of music for no apparent reason.... tsk tsk... what are we, six year olds? |

Well saying shit like, "That's my opinion, and you have your own," or whatever... is PUSSY SHIT! I think it's fucking obvious that this is always the case. There is no need to state the obvious! In fact it makes your stand, your argument, have less merit, less credibilty. It weakens it to a point that makes it mute. Why bother to have heated discussion about anything if you are gonna add, "Well, this is just what I think. I could be wrong"? That's so fucking wishy-washy... get some balls man! Bush and Gore tried to be 'friendly' in their first debates and were highly criticized....
Second, I'm basing all I've said on converstions, statements that I have overheard in #hybrid. Sure it may not be the full picture of someone, but when you bring it up and all they respond with is more of the same that proves your point even more, its easy to make such an argument work |

| whatever that meant. everyone has their own opinion, and when some moron starts freaking out about stuff that is pointless, ones stating that "thats your opinion" really means that they dont give a shit, and dont have the time to fuck around with pointless debates over stupid shit that comes outta nowhere. |
