|
|
I will always like warcraft and starcraft, and have been a fan of both since their respective initial releases. But today when I got The Frozen Throne, trying to play on battle.net, I've begun to realize...they've just taken the game too far.
It's not fun for anyone used to blizzard's traditional RTS games. There are way too many things and variables that you have to account for now, that it's almost too much just to play it; especially online.
Now, I'm not very good at playing RTS games online, never have been, but at least I can usually do alright in a game of StarCraft...okay, so I'm not good at StarCraft online at all, but that's not the point. There are far too many super nerds who do nothing but hang out on Battle.net all day with their friends, making fun of people who are new to WarCraft 3 online.
If you want to play online, you're thrust into a world where hardly anybody plays games on the normal maps, so you usually end up having to download them. But, of course, that's if you can find a game to play in the sea of names like "1v1 obs no DL no noobs." Now, some of this is something you can understand. 1v1 = one on one. no DL = no downloading of the map (Isn't that nice?). no noobs, naturally, means that if you're new to the game, well you're not welcome at all, so you can go fuck yourself. But honestly, what the shit is 'obs?' I still don't know. I don't know what DOTA is either, but hey, I can try to play one of the games.
Being a newbie online is hell, you don't know how to do anything, no one wants to play games with you because you're too slow, and EVERYONE is a prick.
What happened to the days of WarCraft 2? It was so much easier then...You had like 12 units and 2 races to choose from. Now you have about 10 buildings, 4 upgradable, many upgrades to be bought there if yuou want to survive at all, 50 units for 4 races, not to mention the mercenary folk you can hire as well.
So yeah, this post is a rant stating that Blizzard, and it's respective laborers, can go fuck themselves with a searing hot dildo. Give me my WC2 back, you heartless bastards. Edited by: Psydd at: 7/6/03 2:32 am

Meh... I love how Blizzard went overboard with the quality on this expansion pack. The more upgrades, units, and heros available ensures that there will be many diverse strategies out there. This is a step up from the ogre massing mindset of WC 2, and the dragoon and SCV massing mindset of Starcraft. There is so much to do in TFT, that I don't think it will ever get old...
But you're right about the ammount of pricks on bnet... It's hard to find someone "respectful" anymore... Not that it's really different in WC 2 or SC though.
I don't really have the same problems playing online as you have, because I rarely ever play custom games (unless I see VGA or SD members online). I just play ladder games, which ensures that I'll get to face someone who's closer to my level of play. And, I never ever have to download a map this way. I also don't have to worry about the jerks quite as much, because they don't often say anything other than hi and gg (unless you play a team game of course).
I'd be willing to help you learn how to play though. There's usually a good number of SD and VGA members on WC 3 classic, and I think some of them have FT by now (I had it preordered ). My bnet ID is johngamer, but I'm usually not online untill 11 PM cst or so. I play on the eastern server (azeroth).
I think it's funny that you're complaining about a game having too much to do though, that's what makes the game worth the money! And although I'm sure the "keep it simple" rule applies to RTSs, I really don't think it will take you too long to learn all the units and junk for whatever race you play as.
Oh, and "obs" refers to games in which the observer mode is turned on. This allows people to watch a game without actually playing.
It is the only Starcraft strategy! |

People on Counter-Strike are worse, I refuse to play that game without someone I know.
I also will never play WC 3 with these people I don't know, I just find gaming with people I know make the game more enjoyable,
Yea, I just finished Frozen Throne, dope game by the way. If you ever wanna play some WC III Psydd just goto gamesnet irc server, join #Segadevils or aim me or something(SDRzA98)and maybe we can set something up.
We're fairly new to the online part of the game so we'll learn togetha. Plus we usually play computers, they're pretty hard and offer a great challenge.

WC 3: Frozen Throne is a good game in my opinion. I think the additions they added were all nice additions and i liked how they still managed to even the power between Humans, Orcs and N.E.
I do understand how you might dislike the game though, it reminds me of Command and Conquer: Generals. A great great game but so many options that it is almost impossible to form a truly effective defense (just random guessing on what your enemy is doing). |

It's funny, I almost never played against random strangers. I knew people would be pricks and uninteresting so I didn't even bother. Of course I am talking about Starcraft because that is the only online RTS I have played. Anyone that remembers playing with me knows that I liked to fool around when I knew the game was over. Not everyone can appreciate something like that, especially team mates.
Now that I have a nice computer, I'd like to pick up at least one good online game. Then again...maybe I'll get a controller adapter and play some zsnes. |

| I recommend the Gravis Gamepad such and such -- it's like $10 at your local best buy, just fine for all snes/nes/gen emulators. |

| My local best buy is 45 minutes away and is surrounded by wolves. I'll take an adapter thank you very much. |
