Acclaim will no longer be supporting the Gamecube in the next fiscal year. Now I'd like to make an educated statement on this subject but the fact of the matter is...who cares? I'm slightly interested in XGRA but I don't plan on buying it. After that, Legends of Wrestling 3 and some other crappy game, they won't be supporting Nintendo in the near future. Their choice of words led me to believe they'll be supporting their next console though.
I thought I'd bring this up because Gamecube seems to be gaining some more important 3rd party titles (albeit not as much as the competition) but it happens to lose one of the worst publisher's on the market. It's a loss for sure but I won't complain until someone important follows suit. No Rare does not count... |

| Yeah, Acclaim sucks, and I'd never buy their shit, but some people like them... A third party game sold is a third party game sold, and just having a company recant all support like this isn't a good sign... Plus, talks of a 2004 launch for Nintendo's next console have me weary of other third parties abandoning the system, too. |

Well I guess the statement was taken out of context and what they REALLY said was that they would develop GC games on a case-by-case basis. I assume this means no M-rated games.
Honestly I really dont see support for Nintendo dropping in the next console race, though Im sure some American companies will. This time around they're talking with developers to see what they want and IGN seems pretty confident that they'll compete directly with PS2 and Xbox (meaning dvd playback, stronger online and hard drive) though I find it a little contradictary to add dvd playback when you look at everything they've said in the past few years. Anyway, Acclaim's still here, but no one cares. Next year will answer some looming questions... |

GC is done after this fall besides what Nintendo does to keep current owners content. That seems pretty obvious with GC's ever dropping support and Nintendo themselves seemingly not having much after this year (Mario 128 for GC2 now?). It's all about "GC2". If it does as relatively bad as "GC" (in terms of sales)...
They key will be in light of the dominace of the "PlayStation" brand name and the growing appeal and popularity of Xbox in the mind of the public (at least here in the US), Nintendo needs to give people a reason to buy GC2 over PS3 and XB2 (and not just to kids and hardcore Nintendo fans)... And god knows I can't think of what reason there possibly could be (certainly not Mario or Zelda). Which is why I'm so pessimesitic about their future. |

I feel I *must* add this: In no way is this meant to be a "bash" of GC. I am making no comments about the future quality of games. I'll leave that to each individual. I just think after this fall when GC sales continue to stagnate in light of competition of PS2 and Xbox, and if/when sales of 3rd party games on GC are again far below those of other consoles, support will wane. The only reason this fall we see a spike in support is because Nintendo "convinced" so many to stay around for a little longer. Just look at EA. If not for the deal they made we'd only see 2-3 games from them on GC.
As for "proof" against this, saying next year will see such big games as TWW2, Prime 2, Mario 128 (maybe), ect., I say that proves my point that GC will fall into N64's trap of only a few games besides a handful of big time Nintendo games. Just not as bad as N64.
Again I say good. Nintendo NEEDS to put all its effort into GC2 like NOW so we don't get another GC. (Yeah, yeah, there has been a handful of great games, but by no means has it been a great system.)
Get out, and take your Sacagawea dollars with you! I'll give you 'til three. One! |

| Again, I stuck with Nintendo through the N64 days despite the lack of games, there were enough out to keep me busy, but with Gamecube Nintendo lost my support by blatantly ignoring what their customers want in favor of a $10 wire. www.torkworld.cjb.net |
