Sega has said that of June 2003 it is closing down all of its Dreamcast servers except PSO (v.1 & 2).

I know, I know. Thus ends the story of the Dreamcast. I had heard a new game for DC would be coming out in Japan, but over here, it's over folks. Stop living in denial and face the facts. First it was discontinued (what ever happened to those supposed machines with DC chips in them;), the chat server was shut down by too damn serious ops, and now no more online gaming.

Wait, people still played DC games online... seriously? If only I had known...

Although DC lasted only a couple yrs or so, its still one of my top 3 fav. systems, and also holds the record of games Ive owned for a system[79? im not sure...somewhere around there]. The Dreamcast willl never die..in our hearts!!!:o

"The Legend will never die"

Ah yes, the first system I ever got on the day it was released. The first system I ever bought for myself, with my own money (early birthday money...) The system that would change my sleep schedule forever. Damn you IRC! Because of Dreamcast, there was NBrid. I know at least some people around here can appreciate that fact. Though this announcement means little to me, reading it at gamerfeed earlier today did put a grin on my face. It was a good run. A short one, but a good one.

I loved playing my Dreamcast online...

Is it just me, or are the other next gen consoles kind of lack-luster when it comes to online games? X-box Live seems awesome, but I have no X-box or broadband (and probably won't be getting broadband for quite some time), so I have to stick with the GC and PS2.

Neither of these systems has been very good for non-broadband online gaming. Sure, GC has PSO, but that is it... And what does PS 2 have? Does it even have any FPSs online (besides the broadband only socom)? I'm really not too sure...

On a brighter note though, the game Goblin Commander (which is developed by a couple ex-Blizzard employees) is supposed to be online for all systems (I really hope they all share the same servers so we can play each other), and it's looking really awesome. An RTS developed exclusively for consoles... It just has to be good!

Face it, if you plan to play online games in the near future, you have to go broadband. The Live service is great, but it needs more console-esque style games for it (like Ninja Gaiden). PS2 is mainly EA Sports and SOCOM right now, but maybe games like FFXI, GT4, and REonline will help that.

My favorite online DC games are, err, were:
1) Q3A
2) UT
3) PSO
4) ChuChu Rocket
5) Ooga Booga

you know, i sorta wish that i got into chu chu rocket when it came out...

Im interested in seeing how Ghouls and Ghosts online turns out. It's the only online game for all consoles that I have heard about. This blizzard one sounds interesting too. Why haven't i heard anything about it?

i wouldn't have anything to do with the net if it wasn't for dreamcast.

Tribes aerial assault is an online FPS for PS2 and socom isn't a FPS.

- Sega of America announced that effective June 2003, most of the online Dreamcast game servers will be switched off. Only two games will receive continue support, they are Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Online Ver. 2, no other Dreamcast titles will be playable online after this time.

Unfortunately for me, the only boradband service available in my area is satellite, and people keep telling me it is terrible for online gaming... Maybe I'll have BB in the distant future though!

Oh, and here is a link to ign's Goblin Commander coverage: cube.ign.com/articles/399/399947p1.html

I'll try and find out where I read it would be online...

Yeah, UT was probably the best online DC experience... From wailing on Tork and Boner with my patented pulse cannon attack, to the controversial Stalwart XL match... Sigh.

Yeah, the UT matches with klam and Bone have to rank with the best online gaming experiences ever, right up there with

cutting cars off at the perfect angle to make them flip on
Daytona USA

and

using all 3 of my arrows to block one player's Rockets on Chu Chu Rocket (sigh I can play the GBA version on Gaycube soon)

sigh...
