You get an idea and then compile it. During this time, you may search for other kinds of images to inspire you. If you're not Jube, which most of us aren't, try sticking with compilation style art. Like my current sig - I took a marvel comics' drawing of War Machine and put my own stuff near it, without even altering the original image.

klam: OR you could go with my style which includes doing everything pretty much freehand and going for a more "natural look".

klam's brain: Yes klam, natural... either that or a steaming pile of garbage.

Yea just go basic, I've found out basic just looks better, too many things and it looks to cramped.

My sig took about 5 mins. I just placed the BG, then blurred it, then placed cloud on top, cropped out the parts I didnt like and BOOM! Came out with this.

or the deff way... design a 'mold' and create 3D effects and shading for it, then bevel it, then apply background textures, and go from there!

Or there is the 'bone' method. Which simply is have the content over shadow the presentation. Like my below sig. It flat out sucks, but no one hardly notices because they are laughing too damn hard....

Just get Photoshop (or if can't find it, Paint Shop Pro, the poor mans Shop, much smaller download:) and mess around with the effects/filters with stuff you find elsewhere to start... but like Cali said, KISS (keep it simple stupid!) is MUCH better then overdoing it, with too much stuff and too many effects....

Flash is trickier. In that there is a learning curve more then just artist ability... that said it's pretty simple if you are willing to learn... download macromedia's flash for that...

Well ive done almost every kind of sig under the sun ranging from my first which had a bunch of stuff all over it, possibly too much. I never wanted to do a flash sig but if and when i do, it will be without sound...never use sound in a flash sig unless you have to push a button to play it. My current sig is just a scan of a sketch i did with a little text. I beg you though, no DBZ sigs.
