Lemme tell you, this here Gamecube launch is so tightly guarded where I live. Maybe the closeness of the White House is why local retailers are taking a secret service approach to the GC launch.
Toys R Us - Empty big Gamecube section. No systems, no games, no preorder slips, just a few gamecube posters. I asked an employee about Gamecube and he told me he wasn't allowed to TALK TO ME ABOUT GAMECUBE until launch day. It was so heavily guarded that I had to STEAL a free Gamecube promo brochure!
FuncoLand - They suck at holding out. Let's see: they have a few Gamecubes running Luigi's Mansion (not game kiosks, mind you), actual Gamecube BOXES in both colors with pricetags on em stacked up on the floor, and get this AN OPEN BOX OF WAVE RACE: BLUE STORM (and offcial Nintendo strategy guides), yet they tell me that the earliest they'd even see GC hardware or software would be next Friday.
